Blackman is a small community in Rutherford County, Tennessee. It's located on the west side of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place with a shared identity. However, it doesn't have its own separate city government. Blackman was founded a long time ago, in 1808.

A Glimpse into Blackman's Past
Blackman started in 1808 and was first called Blackman's Shop. It was named after its founder, Alfred Blackman. By the time of the American Civil War, Blackman had grown quite a bit. It had a store, doctor's offices, a school, and churches.
The Blackman post office opened in 1898. Later, it became part of the Murfreesboro post office. Today, the area uses zip codes 37128 and 37129. In 2008, the community celebrated its 200th birthday. This special event was held at the annual Blackman Barbecue. It took place at Blackman Middle School.
