The Blanche River (which means White River in French) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the Chaudière-Appalaches region. This area is in the eastern part of Quebec.
The river passes through different local areas. These include parts of the Bellechasse Regional County Municipality (like Saint-Philémon). It also flows through the Les Etchemins Regional County Municipality (including Saint-Magloire and Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse).
The Blanche River is a smaller river that flows into a larger one. It joins the north side of the Etchemin River. The Etchemin River then flows north. Finally, it empties into the mighty St. Lawrence River. This happens near Quebec.

Where the Blanche River Flows
The Blanche River is surrounded by other streams and rivers. These are like its neighbors in the water system.
- To the north, you'll find Beaudoin stream, Milieu stream, rivière du Pin, and Gabriel River.
- To the east and south, it's bordered by the Etchemin River.
- On the west side, there are Dix stream and the Bœuf River.
Starting Point of the River
The Blanche River begins in a mountain range called the Massif du Sud. This area is part of the Notre Dame Mountains. Its source is in the town of Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse.
The river's starting point is about 10.4 kilometres (6.5 mi) south of Saint-Philémon village. It's also about 3.1 kilometres (1.9 mi) southeast of the peak of mont du Midi.
The River's Journey
From its source, the Blanche River travels through forests. It flows for about 10.5 kilometres (6.5 mi). Here's how its journey is divided:
- It flows south for 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) in Saint-Philémon. This takes it to the border of Saint-Magloire.
- Then, it continues south for 0.6 kilometres (0.37 mi) within Saint-Magloire.
- It keeps going south for 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi) until it reaches the 12th-Rang road.
- Next, it turns southeast for 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi), reaching the 10th Rang.
- Finally, it flows southeast and then southwest for 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) until it meets another river.
Where the River Ends
The Blanche River flows into the north bank of the Etchemin River. At this point, the Etchemin River forms the border between Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse and Sainte-Sabine.
The spot where the Blanche River joins the Etchemin River is important. It's upstream from where the Bourget river also joins. This meeting point is about 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) east of the center of Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse village.
Name of the River
The name Rivière Blanche was officially recognized on 18 July 1973. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This commission is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
Before 1973, the river's official name was Rivière Etchemin Nord-Est. However, people often used the name Rivière Blanche on maps even before it became official.
