River's Path and Surroundings
The area drained by the Blanche River is called its watershed. This watershed covers about 217 square kilometers. This is a big part of the larger Noire River watershed.
Where the River Starts
The Blanche River begins at a lake called Lac Blanc. This lake is 143 meters (about 469 feet) above sea level. Lac Blanc is in the town of Saint-Ubalde. Several smaller streams and lakes feed into Lac Blanc:
- From the north, the "Rivière des Pins" brings water from Lac des Pins. This lake is higher up, at 183 meters. It also collects water from other lakes like Gervais and Saint-Laurent.
- From the northeast, water comes from Emerald Lake.
- From the southwest, a series of lakes like Rond and Travers add their water.
Lac Blanc is about 3.75 kilometers (2.3 miles) long. It's a popular spot for vacations and fun activities. People enjoy camping and boating there. The river officially starts at the southwest end of Lac Blanc.
Journey Through Saint-Ubalde
From Lac Blanc, the Blanche River flows southeast. It passes by Morissette Falls. Then, it turns south for a longer stretch. It flows past the village of Saint-Ubalde. Along this path, it collects water from smaller streams. These include the "arm fafan" and "Morel stream".
The river continues its journey south. It meets the Weller River. The Weller River brings water from lakes like Carillon and Sept-Îles. After this, the Blanche River soon reaches the border of Saint-Thuribe.
Flowing Through Other Towns
Once in Saint-Thuribe, the river continues southeast. It then briefly enters Saint-Alban. Here, it flows past the Chute at Bélanger (a waterfall) and a sawmill. After this short detour, it returns to Saint-Thuribe.
The river then flows south for several more kilometers. It eventually joins the Noire River. The Noire River then flows into the Sainte-Anne River. This meeting point is near Grandbois Island, close to the village of Saint-Casimir.
How Land is Used Near the River
The area around the Blanche River is mostly covered by forests. However, the part of the river closer to its end flows through a lot of farmland. This shows how the land changes from wild forests to areas used for growing crops.
