Blas Taracena Aguirre was a famous Spanish archaeologist. He was born in Soria, Spain, on December 1, 1895. He passed away in Madrid, Spain, on February 1, 1951. He spent his life studying ancient history and digging up old sites.

Blas Taracena Aguirre was a very important archaeologist from Spain. He led the Numantine Museum in Soria. He also directed many excavations at Numantia. Numantia is an ancient city site in Spain.

His archaeological work covered many areas. He explored sites near Soria, in Rioja, and especially in Navarra. He continued the important work of his teacher, José Ramón Mélida.

Blas Taracena held many important jobs. He was in charge of the Numantine Museum. In 1939, he became the Director of the National Archaeological Museum of Spain. This is a very big and important museum. He held this position until 1943. During this time, he was also the Secretary of an important research group called the CSIC Institute.

Blas Taracena wrote many books and articles about his discoveries. He received several awards for his work. These awards came from both Spain and other countries. From 1918 to 1919, he was also the assistant director of a local magazine in Soria called Castilla.

  • Reseña histórico-artística de la provincia de Salamanca (Historical-Artistic Review of Salamanca Province), published in 1982. This book was released after he passed away. He wrote it with César Morán Bardón.
