Blinzing was once a small community in Butte County, California, United States. It was located about 5 miles (8 km) north of a place called Berry Creek. Blinzing was also right next to the Western Pacific Railroad tracks. The area was about 915 feet (279 meters) above sea level.

Today, you won't find Blinzing on a map. That's because it is now covered by the waters of Lake Oroville.

What Was Blinzing?

Blinzing was known as a "former settlement." This means it was a place where people used to live and work, but it is no longer an active town or community. Many places become former settlements for different reasons, like changes in the economy or new construction projects.

Blinzing's Railroad Connection

From 1909 to 1912, Blinzing had a special role. Its railroad station was important for people visiting summer resorts. These resorts were located along the Feather River. The railroad made it easy for visitors to travel to and from these popular vacation spots.

Why Did Blinzing Disappear?

Blinzing's story ended when Lake Oroville was created. Lake Oroville is a large reservoir in California. It was built to store water and help with flood control. When the lake was filled, it covered the land where Blinzing once stood. This is why Blinzing is now considered a "sunken city" or "destroyed town."
