The story of Blue Mound began in the 1920s. A Scottish immigrant named John Kennedy started a company called Globe Laboratories, Inc. This company made medicine to protect cattle from a disease called blackleg.
About ten years later, Kennedy sold his company. He then bought a large piece of land, about 400 acres (1.6 km²), near what is now East McLeroy Boulevard and FM 156. Kennedy was very interested in airplanes. He started a company called Globe Aircraft Company on his new land.
As his airplane company grew, more and more people moved to live near the factory. At first, the area was called Saginaw Park. Later, it was renamed Blue Mound after a nearby hill.
In the 1950s, another company, Bell Helicopter, used Kennedy's facility to build new helicopters. Bell Helicopter moved out in 1960. Blue Mound officially became a city in 1957.
