History of Blue Mountain
The town of Blue Mountain grew around Blue Mountain Christian University. This university was started in 1873. Just four years later, in 1877, Blue Mountain officially became a town.
The town got its name from the hills nearby. In the mornings, these hills often look like they have a blue color.
Geography of Blue Mountain
Blue Mountain is in the southwestern part of Tippah County. It sits where two main roads meet: Mississippi Highway 2 and Mississippi Highway 15.
Highway 15 connects Blue Mountain to Ripley to the northeast and New Albany to the south. Highway 2 links the town to Hickory Flat in the west.
The town covers a total area of about 1.65 square miles (4.28 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land.
