The Blue Nose Marathon is a super fun running event held every spring in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It started in 2004. This marathon is a special kind of race because it helps raise money for different charities. It's not just for super fast runners; there are races for everyone!

About the Blue Nose Marathon

This big event includes a full marathon, which is a very long run. It's about 42 kilometers or 26.2 miles! But don't worry, there are shorter races too. You can choose from a 2k or 4k youth run, a 5k, a 10k, or even a half marathon (which is 13.1 miles). Each race has different local businesses that help support it.

History of the Race

The very first Blue Nose Marathon happened in 2004. It quickly became a popular event in Halifax.

In 2005, there was a lot of rain and strong winds. Race organizers had to quickly change the running path to keep everyone safe. They avoided places like a bridge and flooded areas. The race still started, but only about an hour later than planned!

In 2020, the race that happens in person had to be cancelled. This was because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Blue Nose Marathon takes runners all around the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth. The course goes around pretty lakes like Lake Banook and Lake Micmac. Runners also cross the Macdonald Bridge and run through Point Pleasant Park. This park is on the south side of the Halifax peninsula.

All seven different races start and finish in the same spots. However, each race has its own special path to match its distance.

Each year, different companies and groups help support the races. They are called sponsors. Here are some of the current sponsors:

  • The Marathon Team Relay
  • Medavie Half Marathon
