Robert "Bob" Dawson (born May 9, 1924 – died October 20, 2014) was a friendly American TV star. Many people knew him as "Sheriff Bob." He was a TV host, a weather reporter, and a show producer. Bob Dawson became famous for creating and hosting a children's TV show called Sheriff Bob. He was known for being very kind and connecting well with his young viewers. This popular show was on TV from 1954 to 1978.

His Early Life
Bob Dawson was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 9, 1924. His parents were Leland Wayne and Lillian Opal Dawson. After finishing high school, he went to Drake University. He also studied at the American Institute of the Air. There he learned about Radio Broadcasting.
Bob served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an Artillery Sergeant. For his bravery, he received the Bronze Star Medal.
His Work Before TV
After the war, Bob Dawson worked many different jobs. He was a morning DJ at a radio station called KCBC. He also worked as an announcer at KGTV in Des Moines. Later, he moved to Eau Claire. There he worked at a TV station called WEAU for 24 years. He also worked in public relations for 11 years. Bob even served on the Eau Claire County Board for several years.

Becoming Sheriff Bob
In 1954, Bob Dawson started working at WEAU, a TV station in Wisconsin. He was the meteorologist, which means he reported the weather during the news. But Bob had another great idea! He created the Sheriff Bob program for the station in 1954.

The Sheriff Bob show was very popular. It ran for about 25 years! The show had a live audience of children in the studio. Bob Dawson was known for being very kind and friendly. He also visited children in hospitals. He helped cheer them up and make them smile.
His Legacy
Later Years and Honors
Bob Dawson passed away in 2014 when he was 90 years old. He was buried at Rest Haven Cemetery. In 2007, the Eau Claire County Board honored Bob Dawson. They named him 'Honorary Sheriff'. A special documentary was also made about his life. This film about Sheriff Bob was shown on public television stations.
