About Bob Doris
Bob Doris was born in the Vale of Leven, which is in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He went to the University of Glasgow. There, he studied Social Sciences and earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree.
Early Political Steps
In the 2007 election, Bob Doris ran for the Glasgow Maryhill seat in the Scottish Parliament. He came in second place. Before becoming an MSP, he was involved in local politics. He led the SNP Maryhill Constituency Branch for several years. He also chaired the Glasgow Regional Association SNP.
Making a Difference as an MSP
Since he was first elected, Bob Doris has worked on many important issues. He successfully campaigned for free school meals for children. He also helped secure payments for kinship care. Kinship care is when children are looked after by relatives or close family friends. He also helped get money for town centre improvements in Glasgow.
He was a strong voice against Glasgow City Council's plan to close 20 primary and nursery schools. He supported parents who protested these closures. This included parents at Wyndford Primary School and St Gregory's Primary School in Maryhill.
Bob Doris also leads two special groups in the Scottish Parliament. One group focuses on making sure everyone has equal opportunities, especially for racial equality in Scotland. The other group works on rare, genetic, and undiagnosed health conditions.
Elections and Roles
In the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, Bob Doris was a candidate for the new Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn area. He did not win this seat. However, he was elected as one of the SNP MSPs for the Glasgow region.
In the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, Bob Doris ran again for the Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn seat. This time, he won and became the MSP for that area. As of July 2025, he is the Deputy Convener of the Social Security Committee in the Scottish Parliament. This committee looks at how social security benefits are managed in Scotland.
