About Bob Doris's Life
Bob Doris was born in a place called Vale of Leven in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He went to the University of Glasgow. There, he studied Social Sciences and earned a Master of Arts degree.
Early Political Steps
Before becoming an MSP, Bob Doris was involved in politics. He helped with campaigns for other politicians. He also led the SNP group in his local area, Maryhill, for several years.
In 2007, he ran for election in the Glasgow Maryhill area. He came in second place in that election. He was also going to run for a local council seat. However, he decided not to, to focus on his role as an MSP if he was elected.
Working for His Community
Since becoming an MSP, Bob Doris has worked on many important issues. He successfully campaigned for free school meals for children. He also worked to get payments for families who care for relatives' children, known as kinship care.
He helped secure money for town centre improvements in Glasgow. Bob Doris also strongly opposed the closure of 20 primary and nursery schools in Glasgow. He supported parents who protested these closures.
He leads two special groups in the Scottish Parliament. One group focuses on making sure everyone has equal opportunities, no matter their race. The other group helps people with rare or undiagnosed health conditions.
Elections and Current Role
In the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, Bob Doris ran again for the Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn seat. He was also listed as a candidate for the wider Glasgow region. He did not win the local seat that year. However, he was elected as one of the MSPs for the Glasgow region.
In the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, he ran for the Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn seat again. This time, he won the election. He became the MSP for that area.
Currently, Bob Doris is the Deputy Convener of the Social Security Committee. This committee works on important issues related to social security in Scotland. You can find more information about this committee on the Scottish Parliament's website.
