Robert Henry "Bob" Egerton (born on March 6, 1963) is a former Australian rugby union player. He played for the Wallabies, which is Australia's national rugby team.
Bob Egerton had a short but very successful international career in 1991. He played in nine matches for the Wallabies in just 13 weeks. His last game was the exciting 1991 Rugby World Cup final. In this match, Australia beat England 12–6 at Twickenham, winning the World Cup!
Early Life and Education
Bob Egerton was born in Lae, New Guinea. When he was younger, he spent a year in California, USA, where he played high school football.
After returning to Australia, he went to Marist College Canberra. Later, he studied Agricultural Science at Sydney University. While at university, he played rugby for the Sydney University team. He played in different positions, including fullback, wing, and five-eighth.
Bob also studied at Oxford University in England. He played for the Oxford University RFC team in a special game called The Varsity Match in both 1987 and 1988.
Playing for Australia
In 1991, Bob Egerton had a very fast rise in rugby. He first played for the New South Wales state team. Soon after, he was chosen to play for the Wallabies. This was a great year for the Wallabies, as they had an unbeaten season.
Bob played on the opposite wing to another famous player, David Campese. Campese was even named the best player of the 1991 Rugby World Cup!
After Rugby
After the Rugby World Cup, Bob Egerton got injured while playing rugby in the USA. He then started working as a teacher and coach.
He taught Biology at The King's School, Parramatta. He also coached their top rugby team, leading them to win four championships. In 2010, he became the Team Manager for the Wallabies.
Since 2014, Bob Egerton has been a science teacher at Newington College. He also coached their top rugby team to win a championship in 2015.
