Stewart Robert Einstein (born November 20, 1942 – died January 2, 2019) was a funny American actor, writer, and producer. He was famous for creating and playing the silly stuntman character Super Dave Osborne. You might also know him as Marty Funkhouser from Curb Your Enthusiasm or Larry Middleman from Arrested Development.
Bob Einstein started his career writing for TV shows. These included The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. He won two Emmy Awards for his writing. He also won a CableACE Award for acting as Super Dave.
Bob Einstein was the son of radio comedian Harry Einstein. His younger brother is the actor and comedian Albert Brooks.

About Bob Einstein
Bob Einstein was born in 1942 in Los Angeles. His dad was a famous comedian named Harry Einstein. His mom was an actress and singer named Thelma Leeds. Bob also had a younger brother, Albert Brooks, who is also a comedian and writer. When Bob was six, he had polio. He later graduated from Chapman College in 1965.
His Career in Comedy
Bob Einstein started his career by writing for TV shows. He wrote for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. He even won an Emmy Award for his writing on that show. Other writers on the team included Steve Martin. Bob also appeared on the show as Officer Judy. In 1977, he won another Emmy for his work on Van Dyke and Company.
Super Dave Osborne
Bob Einstein created the hilarious character Super Dave Osborne. Super Dave is a goofy stuntman who always messes up his stunts. Bob first played Super Dave on a variety show.
Later, Super Dave became a regular on the TV series Bizarre. He was also a frequent guest on Late Night with David Letterman. On these shows, he would show clips of his failed stunts. He would also tell long, funny jokes.
In 1987, Bob Einstein got his own show called Super Dave. This show ran until 1991. In 1992, an animated series called Super Dave: Daredevil for Hire aired on Fox. Bob also starred in a movie as Super Dave in 2000. It was called The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave.
Other Acting Roles
Bob Einstein had many other memorable roles. He played Marty Funkhouser in Curb Your Enthusiasm. He was also Larry Middleman in the third season of Arrested Development. He voiced characters on the show Crank Yankers.
In the movie Ocean's Thirteen, he played Robert "Bobby" Caldwell. This character was the father of Linus Caldwell, played by Matt Damon. Bobby Caldwell was a master robber and con artist. His day job was an FBI agent.
Bob Einstein also appeared on Anger Management. He played a very angry neighbor. He voiced two characters in The Life & Times of Tim. He was the Elephant Trainer and the bookie.
He was the first comedian to appear twice on Jerry Seinfeld's Web series. It was called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Bob was also a frequent guest on a sports radio show. It was called The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.
His Passing
Bob Einstein passed away on January 2, 2019. He was 76 years old. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Larry David, the creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm, shared his thoughts. He said Bob loved playing Marty Funkhouser. He called knowing and working with Bob an amazing experience.
