Robert Brackett Elliott (born March 26, 1923 – died February 2, 2016) was a famous American comedian and actor. He was one half of the funny team called Bob and Ray. He was also the father of comedian and actor Chris Elliott. His granddaughters, Abby Elliott and Bridey Elliott, are also actresses and comedians. Many people remember him for his radio character, Wally Ballou, who was a reporter.

Life as a Comedian and Actor
Bob Elliott was born in Winchester, Massachusetts. His mother, Gail Marguarite, was a needleworker, and his father, Fred Russell Elliott, worked in insurance. Bob served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
After the war, Bob started working in radio with his long-time partner, Ray Goulding. They had many shows together over several decades. Their first show was called Matinee with Bob and Ray in the late 1940s on WHDH radio in Boston.
Bob and Ray also had their own TV show from 1951 to 1953. Bob appeared on many other TV shows too, like Happy Days, Newhart, and Saturday Night Live. In 1979, he was in a special called Bob & Ray, Jane, Laraine & Gilda with Ray Goulding and famous comedians Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner.
In 1982, Bob Elliott acted in the movie Author! Author!. He also appeared in TV movies like Between Time and Timbuktu. Bob also made TV commercials and wrote funny articles for Mad Magazine with Ray Goulding in the 1950s.
In 1970, Bob and Ray performed their show The Two and Only on Broadway. They continued to work together until Ray Goulding passed away in 1990.
Bob Elliott's Solo Work
After Ray Goulding's death, Bob Elliott continued to act on his own. In 1990, he played a bank guard in the movie Quick Change. That same year, he played "Fred Peterson" in the TV series Get a Life. His real-life son, Chris Elliott, played his son in the show.
Four years later, in 1994, Bob appeared in the movie Cabin Boy, which was produced by Tim Burton. Again, he played Chris Elliott's father in this film. Bob also appeared on radio shows like The American Radio Company of the Air with Garrison Keillor.
Bob Elliott's Family Life
Bob Elliott married Jane Underwood in 1943. They later separated. In 1954, he married Lee Peppers. They were married for 58 years until Lee passed away in 2012.
Bob and Lee had two sons, Chris Elliott and Bob Elliott Jr., and one daughter, Amy Andersen. They also adopted Lee's two children from her previous marriage, Colony Elliott Santangelo and Shannon Elliott. Bob and Lee had 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In 1989, Bob Elliott helped his son Chris write a funny book about their lives together called Daddy's Boy: A Son's Shocking Account of Life with a Famous Father.
His Passing
Bob Elliott passed away in Cundy's Harbor, Maine, on February 2, 2016. He was 92 years old and died from throat cancer.
