Christopher Nash Elliott (born May 31, 1960) is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He is famous for his unique and silly sense of humor. Many people know him for playing Roland Schitt in the popular TV show Schitt's Creek (2015–2020).
Elliott first became known for his funny characters on the show Late Night with David Letterman in the 1980s. He later created and starred in his own comedy series, Get a Life. He has also appeared in many movies, including Groundhog Day (1993), There's Something About Mary (1998), and Snow Day (2000).

Early Life and Family
Chris Elliott was born in New York City. He is the youngest of five children. His mother, Lee, was a model and TV director. His father, Bob Elliott, was a famous comedian from the comedy duo Bob and Ray. Chris grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Elliott has been married to Paula Niedert since 1986. They have two daughters, Abby and Bridey. His daughter Abby is also a comedian and was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2008 to 2012. This made them the first father and child to both be cast members on the show.
Career Journey
Starting on 'Late Night'
In 1982, Elliott began working as a production assistant on Late Night with David Letterman. Soon, he became a writer and started appearing on camera more often. He became famous for playing strange and funny recurring characters.
One of his most famous characters was "The Guy Under the Seats." He pretended to live under the audience's chairs and would pop up to talk to David Letterman. For his writing on the show, Elliott won four Primetime Emmy Awards.
While working on Letterman, he also starred in his own TV specials. He also took small roles in movies like Manhunter and The Abyss. In 1985, he was offered a spot on Saturday Night Live but decided to stay with Letterman.
Starring in His Own Shows
In 1990, Elliott left Late Night to create his own TV show called Get a Life. He played a 30-year-old paperboy who still lived with his parents. The show was known for its silly and unusual humor and became a favorite for many fans.
After Get a Life, Elliott appeared in the classic comedy movie Groundhog Day (1993) as Larry, the cameraman. In 1994, he wrote and starred in the movie Cabin Boy. While it wasn't a big hit at first, it later became a cult classic.
In the 1994-1995 season, Elliott joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. After one season, he moved on to other projects. He later had a memorable role in the hit comedy There's Something About Mary (1998).
Success in the 2000s and Beyond
Throughout the 2000s, Elliott appeared in many popular TV shows. He played the villain in the Nickelodeon movie Snow Day. He also had recurring roles on Everybody Loves Raymond as Peter MacDougall and on How I Met Your Mother as Lily's father, Mickey.
From 2011 to 2014, he starred in the Adult Swim series Eagleheart. He played U.S. Marshal Chris Monsanto in this comedy that made fun of action shows.
Playing Roland Schitt in 'Schitt's Creek'
In 2015, Elliott joined the cast of the Canadian sitcom Schitt's Creek. He played Roland Schitt, the quirky mayor of the town. The show became a huge international success. For his work with the cast, Elliott won a Screen Actors Guild Award. The show itself won nine Emmy Awards.

Besides acting, Chris Elliott has written four funny books. His books make fun of serious topics like history and biographies.
