Osmosis Jones is a fun 2001 American movie that mixes live-action (real actors) with animation. It's a buddy cop comedy directed by the Farrelly brothers, with the animated parts directed by Piet Kroon and Tom Sito.
The movie stars real actors like Bill Murray, Molly Shannon, and Chris Elliott. It also features the voices of Chris Rock, Laurence Fishburne, David Hyde Pierce, Brandy Norwood, and William Shatner.
The story is about Frank DeTorre (played by Bill Murray), a messy zookeeper. The live-action scenes show Frank's life outside his body. But the animated scenes take place inside his body! His body is shown as a busy city filled with human-like parameciums (tiny living things).
Inside Frank's body, a white blood cell cop named Osmosis "Ozzy" Jones teams up with a cold pill named Drix. They try to stop a dangerous virus called Thrax from killing Frank in just two days.
Osmosis Jones was made by Warner Bros. Animation and Conundrum Entertainment. It first showed at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre on August 7, 2001, and then came out in theaters on August 10, 2001. Critics had mixed feelings about the movie. They liked the animated parts, the voice actors (especially Chris Rock, David Hyde Pierce, and Laurence Fishburne), and the story. However, they didn't like the live-action parts as much and felt there was too much gross-out humor.
The movie didn't make much money in theaters, earning $14 million against a budget of $70 million. But it sold very well when it came out on home video. A spin-off animated TV show called Ozzy & Drix later aired on Kids' WB from 2002 to 2004. In the show, Ozzy and Drix are moved to a teenage boy's body and continue fighting germs as Private investigators.

Plot
Frank DeTorre is a messy zookeeper at the Sucat Memorial Zoo in Rhode Island. He's sad because he lost his wife years ago. To cope, he eats too much and doesn't exercise. This makes his young daughter, Shane, upset.
Inside Frank's body, which is called "The City of Frank" by its tiny inhabitants, lives Osmosis "Ozzy" Jones. Ozzy is a white blood cell police officer. He's very eager but sometimes doesn't follow orders. He was sent to patrol the mouth after he made Frank throw up, even though he wasn't supposed to. This incident made him a joke in the city. It also caused Frank to lose his old job and made it so he wasn't allowed to visit Shane's school.
Two years later, Mayor Phlegmming is worried about getting re-elected. He keeps letting Frank eat unhealthy food, even though it's bad for him. One day, Frank eats a dirty boiled egg. This allows Thrax, a very dangerous virus known as "The Red Death," to enter Frank's throat. Mayor Phlegmming doesn't want to take the blame, so he tells Frank's brain to take a cold pill.
The cold pill, named Drixenol "Drix" Koldreliff, cleans up the throat, hiding any sign of Thrax. Ozzy is then told to help the serious and by-the-rules Drix with his investigation. Meanwhile, Thrax takes over a group of sweat germs. He attacks the mucus barrier in Frank's nose, almost killing Drix before Ozzy saves him.
Ozzy and Drix visit Chill, a flu vaccine who gives Ozzy secret information. Chill tells them where Thrax is hiding: in a germ-filled nightclub inside a large zit on Frank's forehead. Ozzy goes undercover and joins Thrax's gang. He learns that Thrax wants to be known as the most dangerous virus ever. Thrax plans to pretend to be a common cold while using his knowledge of DNA to kill Frank in just two days.
When Ozzy is discovered, Drix comes to help him. A big fight breaks out, and Ozzy destroys the zit using a grenade from Drix. The zit lands on Mrs. Boyd's lip during a meeting with Frank, ruining Frank's chance to apologize. Because of this, Mayor Phlegmming stops the investigation, fires Ozzy, and tells Drix to leave since his job was only temporary.
But Ozzy and Drix don't know that Thrax survived the zit's destruction. Thrax kills his remaining helpers and attacks the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls body temperature). He steals a vital nucleotide (a building block of DNA). Then he kidnaps Mayor Phlegmming's secretary, Leah Estrogen, and escapes to the mouth. Thrax's actions make Frank's body unable to control its temperature, causing a dangerous fever. This creates panic in the city.
As Frank is taken to the hospital, Ozzy realizes Thrax is still alive. He convinces a sad Drix not to leave. They catch up to Thrax and rescue Leah. However, Thrax uses pollen to make Frank sneeze, blowing himself out of Frank's mouth and onto Shane's eye. Drix shoots Ozzy out of the mouth after Thrax. They land on Shane's cornea (the clear part of the eye), and a fight begins.
The fight moves to one of Shane's false eyelashes. Thrax seems to be winning and threatens to make Shane his next victim. But Ozzy is clever. He tricks Thrax into getting his hand stuck in the lash. Ozzy escapes just as Shane's lash falls off her face and into a beaker of rubbing alcohol, where Thrax dissolves.
As Frank's temperature goes over 108 degrees, his heart stops. Ozzy rides one of Shane's tears back into Frank's mouth with the stolen nucleotide. He revives Frank just in time! Ozzy gets his job back in the police force and starts a relationship with Leah. Drix stays on as Ozzy's new partner.
After almost dying, Frank decides to live a healthier life. This leads to Mayor Phlegmming being removed from office, and his opponent, Tom Colonic, winning the election easily. Phlegmming is given a cleaning job in the bowels and is accidentally ejected from Frank's body when Frank passes gas.
