Bob Lamey, born on December 23, 1938, is a well-known American sportscaster. He was famous as the radio voice for the Indianapolis Colts, a professional football team in the National Football League. Lamey was often called "The Voice of the Colts" starting in 1984, when the team moved to Indianapolis. He continued in this role until he retired in 2018.

Bob's Career in Sports Broadcasting

Bob Lamey had a long and exciting career in sports. Before joining the Colts, he was the radio announcer for the NBA's Indiana Pacers from 1977 to 1984. He also announced games for two hockey teams that are no longer active: the Indianapolis Racers and the Indianapolis Checkers. When he first came to Indianapolis in the 1970s, many people affectionately called him "Hockey Bob" because of his work with hockey teams.

Lamey also worked as the sports director for Indianapolis radio station WIBC. From 1988 to 2000, he reported from the turns during races for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network. He even provided play-by-play commentary for a national TV broadcast of the 100th Monon Bell Classic, a famous college football game.

Before moving to Indianapolis, Bob Lamey spent five years as the voice of the ABA's Carolina Cougars. He also served as the sports director for WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. From 1964 to 1972, he broadcast games for the Charlotte Checkers hockey team on WSOC radio. Bob Lamey suddenly announced his retirement in August 2018.

Bob's Life Outside of Broadcasting

Bob Lamey was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, but he grew up in Victoria, Texas. He went to college at Texas Christian University and later earned a higher degree from Ohio University.

Today, Bob Lamey lives in Indianapolis with his second wife, Kim. He has three daughters, two stepdaughters, and one stepson. He is also a proud grandparent to seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Bob Lamey is a very big fan of the New York Yankees baseball team.
