His Career in Sports
Bob Lamey has had a long and exciting career in sports broadcasting. Before joining the Colts, he was the radio voice for the NBA's Indiana Pacers from 1977 to 1984. He also announced games for two hockey teams that are no longer playing: the Indianapolis Racers and the Indianapolis Checkers.
When he first came to Indianapolis in the 1970s, people sometimes called him "Hockey Bob." Besides announcing games, Lamey was also the sports director for the Indianapolis radio station WIBC. From 1988 to 2000, he worked as a reporter during races for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network. He also described the action for a national TV broadcast of the 100th Monon Bell Classic football game.
Early Broadcasting Days
Before coming to Indianapolis, Bob Lamey spent five years as the voice of the ABA's Carolina Cougars. He also worked as the sports director at WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. From 1964 to 1972, he broadcast games for the Charlotte Checkers hockey team on WSOC 930AM radio.
In August 2018, Bob Lamey announced that he was retiring from broadcasting.

Bob Lamey was born in Chester, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Victoria, Texas. He went to Texas Christian University and later earned a master's degree from Ohio University.
Today, Bob Lamey lives in Indianapolis with his second wife, Kim. He has three daughters, two stepdaughters, and one stepson. He also has seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Bob Lamey is a big fan of the New York Yankees baseball team.
