Bob Ward is an expert who helps share information about climate change. Since 2008, he has worked at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics. He is their director for policy and communications.

Before this, he worked for eight years at the Royal Society, which is a famous group of scientists. There, he led the team that talked to the media. Bob Ward studied Geology at university.

Bob Ward's Work on Climate Change

Bob Ward became very involved with climate change issues in 2005. At that time, he was working for the Royal Society. He asked a large company called ExxonMobil to stop sharing wrong information about climate science.

He told the company that it was hard to understand why they were giving money to groups that spread misleading ideas about climate change. These groups were making it seem like scientists were not sure about climate change, or they were making the problem seem less important.

Speaking Out About Climate Science

In 2009, there was a discussion about some emails from climate scientists. This was called the Climatic Research Unit email controversy. Bob Ward said that politicians would not be fooled by this. He explained that it's basic science that greenhouse gases are warming the world. He also believed the emails did not show that scientists had done anything wrong.

He also shared his opinion that some people were using climate change denial as a political idea, especially those on the far right.

In 2010, Bob Ward was worried that some important scientists at the Royal Society might not agree with the group's official view on climate change. He wrote letters to newspapers asking the Royal Society to make its position on global warming very clear.

Challenging Leaders on Climate Change

In 2019, when the US President Trump visited the UK, Bob Ward helped organize a letter. This letter was sent to the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May. More than 250 scientists signed the letter. They asked the Prime Minister to talk to President Trump about his choice not to accept or deal with global climate change. Important scientists like Chris Rapley and Joanna Haigh also signed this letter.
