Bobbi Brown (born April 14, 1957) is a famous American make-up artist, author, and businesswoman. She is best known for creating the company Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. After leaving her original company in 2016, Brown started several new projects. She became a certified health coach and launched a line of wellness products. In 2020, she started a new makeup brand called Jones Road. Brown also runs a lifestyle website and, with her husband Steven Plofker, redesigned a boutique hotel in Montclair, New Jersey.

Early life and career
Bobbi Brown was born into a Jewish family in Chicago, Illinois. She went to Emerson College in Boston and earned a degree in theatrical makeup. In 1980, she moved to New York City to become a professional makeup artist.
At the time, very bright and bold makeup was in style. Brown became known for a more natural look. Her style used softer, more moderate tones that enhanced a person's natural beauty instead of covering it up. This unique approach helped her stand out in the beauty world.
Makeup and beauty brands
Brown has founded several successful companies throughout her career, starting with her famous Essentials line.
Bobbi Brown Essentials
In 1990, Brown worked with a chemist to create ten lipstick shades that looked natural. A year later, she and her husband launched the brand Bobbi Brown Essentials. The brand's products first sold at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City.
The launch was a huge success. Brown expected to sell 100 lipsticks in the first month, but she sold 100 on the very first day. In 1995, the large beauty company Estée Lauder bought her company. Brown stayed on as an employee and kept creative control over the makeup line.
In December 2016, Brown announced she was leaving the company. She then moved on to other projects, including beauty podcasts and her website, JustBobbi.com.
Jones Road
In October 2020, Brown launched her second beauty brand, Jones Road. She had to wait 25 years to start a new makeup company because of a non-compete agreement she signed when she sold her first brand. This type of agreement is a promise not to start a similar business for a certain period.
Jones Road is described as a "clean beauty" brand. This means it focuses on simple, effective products with safe ingredients. The brand offers a small, curated collection of makeup and skincare, so customers are not overwhelmed with choices.
Other product lines
Besides makeup, Brown has also created a collection of fragrances. She also worked with the Safilo Group S.p.A. to design a line of glasses.
Other projects
Brown is an entrepreneur who has started businesses outside of the beauty industry.
Evolution 18
In 2019, Brown founded Evolution_18, a wellness brand inspired by a healthy lifestyle. The products include supplements, collagen powders, and other items designed to support health from the inside out. They were sold at major stores like Walmart.
The George Hotel
In 2015, Brown and her husband bought a historic inn in Montclair, New Jersey. The building was first built as a home in 1902 and became an inn in the 1940s. They renovated the property and reopened it in 2018 as The George Hotel, a 32-room hotel.
18 Label Studio
Brown is a co-founder of 18 Label, a film and television studio in New Jersey. Major TV networks like CNBC and the Food Network have filmed shows at the studio. Brown has also appeared as a guest on Food Network shows like The Kitchen.
Books and media work
Brown has shared her beauty knowledge through books, television, and online articles. She was the Beauty & Lifestyle Editor for the radio show Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. For 12 years, she was a regular beauty expert on the Today show on NBC.
She was also the Editor-in-Chief of Yahoo! Beauty from 2014 to 2016 and has written for many other publications.
