Bobbie J. Richardson was born on December 25, 1949. She is an American politician who has held important roles in North Carolina. She used to be the leader, or Chair, of the North Carolina Democratic Party. Before that, she was also a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Bobbie Richardson is a retired educator. She worked for 35 years in public schools in North Carolina. She earned her college degrees from North Carolina Central University and her advanced degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is African-American.

Early Life and Education
Bobbie J. Richardson was born in Wood, North Carolina. She has always been dedicated to learning and helping others learn. She attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, where she earned both her first college degree (Bachelor of Arts) and a master's degree. Later, she continued her studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned her doctorate degree. Her long career as an educator shows her commitment to students and schools.
Serving in the State House
In January 2013, Bobbie Richardson became a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of North Carolina. She was chosen to represent the 7th District. This district includes parts of Franklin and Nash counties. She was appointed to this role after the previous representative, Angela Bryant, moved to the state Senate. Bobbie Richardson served in the State House until January 2019.
Leading the Democratic Party
On November 24, 2020, Bobbie Richardson announced she wanted to become the Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party. The Chair is the main leader of a political party in a state. This person helps organize the party, supports candidates, and works to achieve the party's goals.
Bobbie Richardson was elected as Chair on February 27, 2021. This was a historic moment because she became the first Black person to hold this position. She led the party for nearly two years. On February 11, 2023, she ran for re-election but lost to Anderson Clayton. Anderson Clayton was 25 years old at the time and from Roxboro.
