Early Life and Musical Start
Bobby LaKind grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey. He finished high school there in 1963. Later, he went to the University of Kentucky. He was part of a student group called Sigma Nu. A famous basketball player, Pat Riley, was also in this group.
Joining The Doobie Brothers
Bobby started playing with The Doobie Brothers in 1976. He played in their recording sessions and also performed live with them. In 1978, he appeared on a TV show called What's Happening!! with the band. He looked like a full member there. However, he wasn't officially listed on an album until 1983. That album was called Farewell Tour.
Later Years and Other Projects
The Doobie Brothers took a break for a while. During this time, from about 1985 to 1991, Bobby joined another band. This band was called The Bonedaddys. They played Afro-Cuban music in Santa Monica. Bobby played congas and other percussion for them. He recorded at least two albums with The Bonedaddys. These albums were "A-Koo-De-A" (1988) and "Worldbeatniks" (1991).
When The Doobie Brothers got back together in 1988, Bobby rejoined them. He played on their album Cycles. Sadly, he soon had to stop playing because of an illness.
Legacy and Passing
Bobby LaKind's former bandmates wanted to help him and his family. In 1992, they held two special concerts. These concerts raised money for a fund for Bobby's two sons, Nicky and Cutter. Bobby passed away on December 24, 1992. He was 47 years old.
