Bogdan Ionuț Lobonț is a Romanian football coach and former player. He was born on January 18, 1978. Bogdan played as a goalkeeper, which means he was the player who protects the goal. He is currently a technical director at a club called CSM Olimpia Satu Mare.
Bogdan Lobonț played 86 games for the Romanian national team between 1998 and 2018. He even played in two big European football tournaments. People in Romania often called him Pisica, which means "The Cat". This nickname came from his super quick reflexes and because he was a bit smaller than many other goalkeepers.

Playing Career
Early Days at Corvinul Hunedoara
Bogdan Lobonț started playing football when he was 12 years old. He joined his local club, Corvinul Hunedoara, in his hometown. He began playing for the senior team in the 1995–96 season. Even in his first game, he played very well. In the next season, he played more often and helped his team finish in seventh place.
Joining Rapid București
In 1997, a famous football person named Rică Răducanu saw Bogdan play. He was so impressed that he told Rapid București's manager, Mircea Lucescu, about him. Bogdan then joined Rapid București. He played his first top-league game on August 2, 1997, and didn't let any goals in!
At Rapid, Bogdan won his first trophy, the Romanian Cup, in 1998. He played the whole final game, and his team won 1–0. The next season, he played in 31 league games, helping Rapid București win the league title. In 2000, he moved to a famous Dutch club, Ajax.
Time at Ajax and Dinamo București
Bogdan joined Ajax, a big club in the Netherlands. He played his first game for Ajax in November 2000. During the 2001–02 season, Ajax loaned him back to Dinamo București in Romania. There, he played 22 league games and helped Dinamo win the league title. He even kept a clean sheet in a big derby match against Steaua București.
When he returned to Ajax, Bogdan became their main goalkeeper. He played in the Champions League, a very important European competition. His team reached the quarter-finals, where they played against AC Milan. Ajax almost made it to the semi-finals, but lost in the last moments of the game. In the 2003–04 season, he played 24 league games and helped Ajax win another league title. He also played with famous players like Cristian Chivu, Nicolae Mitea, and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Moving to Fiorentina
In January 2006, Bogdan moved to Fiorentina, an Italian club. He played regularly until the end of that season. However, in the next season, he didn't play as much because another goalkeeper recovered from an injury.
Return to Dinamo București

In January 2007, Bogdan made a surprising move back to Dinamo București. He wanted to play more games and get back his spot on the Romanian national team. He played 14 league games and helped Dinamo win the league title again in the 2006–07 season. He also played in European games for Dinamo. In 2007, he was voted the second-best Romanian Footballer of the Year.
Playing for Roma
On August 31, 2009, Bogdan joined Roma, a big club in Italy. He first joined on a special loan deal. He played his first game for Roma in October, coming on as a substitute. He also played in the Europa League, another European competition.
In the next seasons, he continued to play for Roma. He played in the Italian Super Cup and the Champions League. He also played in important derby matches. Even though he didn't always play, he stayed with Roma for many years. In 2016, he extended his contract, making Roma the last team he played for in his career.
International Career
Bogdan Lobonț played 86 games for the Romanian national team. His first game was on September 2, 1998, in a big 7–0 win against Liechtenstein. He helped Romania qualify for the Euro 2000 tournament. He was part of the squad, but didn't play in any games there.
He became a very important player for Romania in the following years. He played in many qualification games for the World Cup and European Championships. In the Euro 2008 qualifiers, he played ten matches and helped Romania qualify for the tournament. He even kept a clean sheet in a famous 1–0 win against the Netherlands.
At the Euro 2008 tournament, he played in all three group stage matches. He had a great performance in the 1–1 draw against world champions Italy. His last game for Romania was on June 5, 2018, in a friendly match against Finland.
In 2008, the President of Romania gave him a special medal called "The Sportive Merit" for his great performances.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Bogdan Lobonț started coaching. In January 2019, he became a coach at Universitatea Cluj. He then worked as an assistant coach for the Romanian national team. Later, he became a scout for Roma, looking for new talented players.
From 2021 to 2022, he coached Romania's under-20 team. He led them to some wins against teams like Poland, Czech Republic, and Portugal. In August 2023, he became the goalkeeper coach for Rapid București. For a short time in 2024, he was the main coach for Rapid București. After that, he worked as an assistant coach there. As of 2025, he is the technical director at CSM Olimpia Satu Mare.
