A Look at Boggabilla's Past

The Boggabilla area is near where two large groups of Aboriginal Australians lived. These were the Bigambul people and the northern clans of the Gamilaraay people. When British settlers arrived, it greatly changed the lives of these groups.

In the early 1840s, British settlers began to take land. Around 1843, George Yeomans and Otto Baldwin started the Boggabilla pastoral station. A pastoral station is a large farm for raising animals. The town of Boggabilla itself was officially formed later. Land was first sold there in 1863.
