Bois d'Arc is a very small place in Anderson County, Texas. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2000, only about 10 people lived there! Some people even call it a ghost town because it's so small.

History of Bois d'Arc

Bois d'Arc started as a few homes along a road. Over time, it grew a little to become a small community. It had a church and a couple of small businesses. In the late 1980s, there was a Southern Baptist church, two small stores, and just one house. This house had a special tree in its backyard: an Osage Orange tree. These trees are also known as "Bois d'Arc" trees, which is where the community gets its name! A Baptist church was first built here in 1914.

Where is Bois d'Arc Located?

Bois d'Arc is in the northwestern part of Anderson County. You can find it where two roads, Farm to Market Road 860 and Texas State Highway 19, meet. It's about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of a bigger town called Palestine.

The area around Bois d'Arc has rolling hills. You'll see many different kinds of trees there, like oak, gum, and pine trees. Even though the community is named after the Bois d'Arc tree, there are only two of these special trees left in the area today.
