Bolgart is a small town located north of Toodyay in Western Australia. It is part of the Shire of Victoria Plains.

The town gets its name from a nearby spring. An explorer named George Fletcher Moore found this spring in 1836. People started settling in the area in the 1840s. One of the first settlers, J Scully, named his farm "Bolgart." The town itself was officially created in 1909.

The name "Bolgart" comes from the Aboriginal language. It means "place of water."

What Makes Bolgart Special?

Nature and Farming

Bolgart is surrounded by beautiful nature. The Drummond Nature Reserve and Bewmalling Nature Reserve are close by. These areas help protect local plants and animals.

The main job in Bolgart is wheat farming. Farmers grow a lot of wheat here. The town has a special site where farmers can deliver their grain. This site is run by Cooperative Bulk Handling, which helps store and move the wheat.

Trains and History

A railway line runs right through Bolgart. This line was once the end of the Newcastle–Bolgart Railway. Later, it was extended to another town called Miling. It then became known as the Clackline–Miling railway.

Bolgart also has a small museum about farming. Inside, you can see old farm equipment. One special item is a restored Marshall oil-fired tractor from the early 1900s. It shows how farming used to be done.

An Unforgettable Day

On March 11, 1952, Bolgart experienced a magnitude 5.2 earthquake. This was a strong earthquake for the area. Several smaller aftershocks followed it. People in Perth, which is far away, even felt the ground shake. Taller buildings in Perth swayed during the event.
