What are the Bolton Lakes?

The Bolton Lakes are a connected series of freshwater bodies. They are an important part of the natural landscape in eastern Ontario. These lakes are known for their quiet beauty and are surrounded by forests.

Where are the Bolton Lakes Located?

The Bolton Lakes are nestled in the heart of Frontenac County. This area is part of the larger province of Ontario, Canada. The lakes are not far from the community of Sharbot Lake. This makes them easy to reach for visitors and local residents.

How Does the Water Flow?

Water from the Bolton Lakes eventually makes its way to a much larger river. This journey starts with a small stream called Bolton Creek. This creek is the main way water leaves the lakes.

From Bolton Creek to the Ottawa River

After leaving the Bolton Lakes, Bolton Creek flows into the Fall River. The Fall River then joins the Mississippi River. It's important to know that this is the Mississippi River in Ontario, Canada, not the famous one in the United States! Finally, the Canadian Mississippi River flows into the mighty Ottawa River. This means all the water from the Bolton Lakes eventually becomes part of the Ottawa River's huge drainage basin. A drainage basin is like a giant bowl where all the rain and melted snow collect and flow into one main river.
