Bomb pop
Original flavor Bomb Pop

The Bomb Pop is a super cool frozen treat that looks like a rocket! It's made by a company called Wells Enterprises. The very first Bomb Pop had three yummy flavors: cherry (red), lime (white), and blue raspberry (blue). It's famous for its red, white, and blue layers.

As of 2015, there were nine main Bomb Pop flavors. Some of these include the Original, Fruit Bomb, Watermelon, and even flavors inspired by other candies like Hawaiian Punch, Warheads, and Jolly Rancher! There are also sugar-free options and unique ones like Banana Fudge, Lemonade, Tongue Splashers, and Nerds.

The Story of the Bomb Pop

How the Bomb Pop Was Invented

The Bomb Pop was created by two people, James S. Merritt and D.S. Abernethy. They invented this fun frozen treat in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 30, 1955. It quickly became a popular summer snack!

In 1971, the name "Bomb Pop" became a trademark. This means the name and design were officially protected, so no one else could use them without permission.

A New Owner for Bomb Pops

D.S. Abernethy's company, Merritt Foods, closed down in 1991. That's when another company, Wells' Dairy, bought the business. This included the rights to make and sell Bomb Pops, so the delicious treats could keep being enjoyed!

Protecting Kids' Information Online

In 1999, a website for Bomb Pops was used as an example to show why new rules were needed to protect children's privacy online. The website asked kids to fill out their personal information, like their home address, if they wanted to win a Nintendo Game Boy. This showed how important it is to have rules that keep kids' private information safe when they are online.

Fun Partnerships and Celebrations

In 2003, The Walt Disney Company made a special deal with Wells' Dairy. This allowed them to create cool Buzz Lightyear Bomb Pops, combining a favorite treat with a popular movie character!

In 2005, the company Blue Bunny celebrated the Bomb Pop's 50th birthday! To mark this special occasion, they started a big sweepstakes. Two lucky winners got a trip to Disneyland, and 50 other winners received a Game Boy Advance. The 50th anniversary was also the start of National Bomb Pop Day, which is now celebrated every year on the last Thursday in June.
