Boomerang is a Canadian TV channel that shows lots of awesome cartoons! It's owned by a company called Corus Entertainment. Boomerang is like the Canadian version of the Boomerang channel you might know from the United States.

It mostly plays animated shows from the huge libraries of Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera. Think classic cartoons and also newer versions of your favorite old shows! Sometimes, it even shows reruns of original series from Cartoon Network.

This channel first started in 2012. Back then, it was known as Cartoon Network Canada. It was a sister channel to Teletoon. In 2023, the Cartoon Network name moved to the Teletoon channel. At the same time, this channel became Boomerang. It now focuses on all those great classic and new animated shows.

History of Boomerang Canada

How it Started: As Cartoon Network (2012–2023)

In 2011, a company called Teletoon Canada got permission to start a new TV channel. It was planned to show action, adventure, superheroes, and comedy.

In February 2012, Teletoon announced that this new channel would be a Canadian version of Cartoon Network. It would also include a late-night block called Adult Swim. To give viewers a sneak peek, Cartoon Network shows were aired on Teletoon and Teletoon Retro. The channel officially launched on July 4, 2012.

In 2014, Corus Entertainment became the full owner of Teletoon Canada. This meant Corus also owned the Cartoon Network channel.

Expanding to More Homes

In 2015, Cartoon Network moved to the channel spots that Teletoon Retro used to have. Teletoon Retro was closing down. This change was a big deal because it meant Cartoon Network could be seen in many more homes across Canada. It expanded to five million households!

Adult Swim Gets Its Own Channel

In 2019, the Adult Swim block stopped airing on Cartoon Network. This was because Adult Swim was getting its very own channel. It launched on April 1, 2019.

Boomerang (2023–present)

On February 21, 2023, Corus Entertainment announced a big change. Teletoon would become Cartoon Network on March 27, 2023. On the same day, the channel that was Cartoon Network would relaunch as Boomerang.

Now, Boomerang focuses on popular shows from the Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation libraries.

What's On Boomerang?

Boomerang currently shows animated programs from the Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios libraries. This includes classic cartoons and original shows made for Boomerang. To follow Canadian content rules, the channel also airs shows from its parent network and YTV. The channel does not create its own new shows right now.

When it was Cartoon Network, the channel aired shows from its U.S. counterpart. It also showed programs from its sister network, Teletoon. Often, the newest episodes of popular Cartoon Network shows would first air on Teletoon. This channel would then show them as reruns or air shows that were expected to have a smaller audience.

From its launch until April 2019, Cartoon Network also had a Canadian version of the Adult Swim block. This block showed animated and live-action comedy shows for teens and young adults. In 2019, Adult Swim got its own dedicated channel.
