History of Boonville
Boonville got its name from the famous explorer, Daniel Boone. A post office opened in Boonville way back in 1857. The town officially became a town on February 19, 1895. This happened when the North Carolina legislature approved it.

Fire Department
The Boonville Community Volunteer Fire Department started in 1941. They protect the town from fires. The old fire station building is now called the Harvey E Smith Municipal Building. It holds the police station and meeting rooms for the town council. A new fire station was built in 1997. It has many fire trucks and equipment. Both volunteers and paid staff work there.
