Exploring Booster Lake
Booster Lake is located within the Canadian Shield, a huge area of ancient rock that covers much of eastern and central Canada. The lake sits about 320 meters (1,050 ft) above sea level.
Where is Booster Lake?
This lake is about 56 miles (90 km) northeast of a town called Lac Du Bonnet. It's also quite close to the border with the province of Ontario, only about 5 miles (8.0 km) away. You can reach the lake by following Highway 315, which runs just north of it.
How Water Flows Through Booster Lake
Booster Lake gets its water from several smaller creeks that flow into it. The water then leaves the lake through a stream called Booster Creek. This creek flows into Bird Lake, which is the start of the Bird River. The Bird River then eventually joins the larger Winnipeg River. This shows how all the waterways are connected!
A Look at the Area's History
Long ago, the roads around Booster Lake were first built for logging and mining. People used to mine for gold in this area, but that mine is now closed. Today, there's still active mining happening nearby, especially around Bernic Lake. The Tanco Mining Company operates there. They dig up important minerals like caesium, tantalum, and spodumene, which are used in many modern technologies.
