Borinquen is a neighborhood, or "barrio," located in the town of Caguas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 7,953 people lived there. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.

A Look Back: Borinquen's History
Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened in 1898, when Spain and the U.S. signed a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. After this, Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory.
In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count, or census, found that Borinquen barrio and the nearby Bairoa barrio had a combined population of 3,870 people.
