Boris Novković (born December 25, 1967) is a popular singer and songwriter from Croatia. He has been making music and performing since the 1980s, which is a long time!

About Boris Novković

Boris Novković was born in Sarajevo, which was part of Yugoslavia at the time. Music was a big part of his family life. His mother, Ozana, taught music, and his father, Đorđe, was a famous Croatian songwriter and music manager. This family background helped Boris become interested in a music career himself.

He released his first album, Kuda idu izgubljene djevojke (Where Do Lost Girls Go), in 1986. It sold over 120,000 copies! His next album in 1987, Jači od sudbine (Stronger Than Fate), sold even more, reaching 160,000 copies. This album is still his best-selling one. He then released two more successful albums: Dok svira radio (While the Radio Plays) in 1988 and Obojeni snovi (Colored Dreams) in 1989.

In 1990, Boris almost got to represent Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a huge international music competition. He came in second place in the national try-outs with his song "Dajana." Even though he didn't win, this led him to perform at an international festival in Kuala Lumpur. Over the next few years, he released many more albums and two "best of" collections.

Eurovision Journey

Fifteen years after his first try, Boris Novković finally got to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. He performed his song "Vukovi umiru sami" (Wolves Die Alone) with members of the Lado ensemble. To win the Croatian competition, called Dora, they had to beat many other famous Croatian singers.

Croatia's entry in 2004 did not get a high enough score to automatically qualify for the 2005 Eurovision final. So, Boris's song first had to compete in the semi-final. It did very well, finishing 4th and earning 169 points, which meant it qualified for the final! Boris represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv, Ukraine. He finished in 11th place with 115 points, which was a great result.

Boris also helped write another Croatian Eurovision song. He composed "Moja štikla" (My High Heel), which was Croatia's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. This song was performed by the singer Severina.

Later, Boris recorded two more albums. One was in Croatian, and the other was in English.
