About Boris Novković

Boris Novković was born in Sarajevo, which was part of Yugoslavia at the time. Music was a big part of his family life. His mother, Ozana, taught music. His father, Đorđe Novković, was a famous Croatian songwriter and music manager.

Early Music Career

Boris released his first album, Kuda idu izgubljene djevojke, in 1986. It sold 120,000 copies! His next album, Jači od sudbine, came out in 1987. This album sold 160,000 copies. It is still his best-selling album ever. He released two more successful albums after that: Dok svira radio in 1988 and Obojeni snovi in 1989.

Eurovision Song Contest

In 1990, Boris almost got to represent Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest. His song "Dajana" came in second place in the national competition. This win allowed him to perform at an international festival in Kuala Lumpur.

Fifteen years later, in 2005, Boris finally got to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest. He performed his song "Vukovi umiru sami" ("Wolves die alone"). He sang with members of the Lado ensemble. They won the Dora competition in Croatia to earn their spot. They beat many other famous Croatian singers.

Croatia did not automatically qualify for the 2005 Eurovision final. So, Boris's song was first performed in the semi-final. It finished 4th, which was good enough to move on to the final! Boris represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv. He finished 11th in the final. The next year, in 2006, Boris also wrote the song "Moja štikla". This song was Croatia's entry for Eurovision that year. It was performed by Severina.
