Borys Piotr Budka (born 11 March 1978) is a Polish politician. He has been a member of the Sejm, which is like Poland's main parliament, for several terms. He also served as the Minister of Justice in 2015.
Mr. Budka has held important leadership roles in the Civic Platform political party. He was a vice-president and later the leader of the party. He also led the parliamentary group for the Civic Coalition. In 2024, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament.

Who is Borys Budka?
Borys Budka was born in Czeladź, Poland. His parents are Józef and Maria. He has always been interested in law and how countries are governed.
Early Life and Education
Borys Budka studied law at the University of Silesia in Katowice. He graduated in 2002. After that, he became a legal counsel in 2007. This means he advises people on legal matters.
In 2011, he earned a special degree called a PhD in economics. He studied how people get jobs and work. Since finishing his studies, he has also taught law at the University of Economics in Katowice.
Starting in Local Government
Mr. Budka began his political career in 2002. He became a local councilor in the city of Zabrze. A councilor helps make decisions for the city.
He was a councilor for the Civic Platform party in 2002 and 2010. In 2006, he was a councilor for a local group. From 2002 to 2005, he was a vice-leader of the Gliwice City Council. In 2014, he ran to be the president of Gliwice but came in third place.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 2011, Borys Budka was elected to the Sejm as a member of the Civic Platform party. He received many votes from people in the Gliwice area.
Serving as Justice Minister
On April 30, 2015, the Prime Minister at the time, Ewa Kopacz, chose him to be the Minister of Justice. He started this important job on May 4, 2015. As Minister of Justice, he was in charge of the country's legal system.
In parliament, he worked on committees that deal with justice and human rights. He also helped change laws. He was chosen to be part of the National Council of the Judiciary, which helps make sure judges are fair.
Leading a Political Party
On February 26, 2016, Borys Budka became a co-leader of the Civic Platform's group in parliament. On November 12, 2019, he became the main leader of the Civic Coalition parliamentary group.
On January 3, 2020, he announced he would run to be the leader of the Civic Platform party. He won the election on January 25, 2020. He officially took over as party chairman on January 29, 2020, replacing Grzegorz Schetyna. In 2020, he supported Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in the presidential election.
Beyond Politics
Outside of his political work, Borys Budka is married to Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka. She is also a local councilor in Gliwice.
He is also a long-distance runner. He enjoys running in street races. In 2009, he ran his fastest marathon in 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 3 seconds. This was during the first Silesia Marathon.
