Borys Piotr Budka, born on March 11, 1978, is a well-known Polish politician. He has held several important roles in Poland's government. He was a member of the Sejm, which is like Poland's parliament, for many years. He also served as the Minister of Justice in 2015. From 2020 to 2021, he was the leader of the Civic Platform political party. In 2024, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament.

Borys Budka's Life and Education
Borys Budka's parents are Józef and Maria. He studied law at the University of Silesia in Katowice, graduating in 2002. After that, he became a legal counsel in 2007. In 2011, he earned a PhD in economics from the University of Economics in Katowice. His studies focused on employment policy. Since finishing his studies, he has also worked as a teacher at the University of Economics.
Early Political Career
Borys Budka started his political journey as a local councilor in Zabrze in 2002. He was a councilor for the Civic Platform party in 2002 and 2010. In 2006, he served as a councilor for a local committee. From 2002 to 2005, he was the vice-leader of the Gliwice City Council. In 2014, he ran for mayor of Gliwice but came in third place.
Serving in Parliament
In 2011, Borys Budka was elected to the Sejm, Poland's parliament, representing the Gliwice area. He received over 10,000 votes. On April 30, 2015, the Prime Minister at the time, Ewa Kopacz, announced that he would become the new Minister of Justice. He officially took on this role on May 4, 2015.
As a member of parliament, he joined important committees. These included the Justice and Human Rights Committee and the Legislative Committee. He also helped lead a special committee focused on changing laws. The parliament also appointed him to the National Council of the Judiciary.
On February 26, 2016, Borys Budka became a co-leader of the Civic Platform's group in parliament. Later, on November 12, 2019, he became the new leader of the Civic Coalition parliamentary group.
Leading the Civic Platform Party
On January 3, 2020, Borys Budka announced he would run for the leader position of the Civic Platform party. He won the election on January 25, 2020, beating other candidates. He officially became the chairman of the Civic Platform on January 29, 2020. He took over from the previous party leader, Grzegorz Schetyna. In 2020, he supported Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in the presidential election.
Borys Budka's Private Life
Borys Budka is married to Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka. She is also a local councilor in Gliwice. He enjoys long-distance running and has participated in many street races. In 2009, he achieved his best marathon time of 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 3 seconds at the Silesia Marathon.
