This means it is an area that looks like a town but is not officially a city or village. Bourg is part of a larger metropolitan area. This area includes the towns of Houma, Bayou Cane, and Thibodaux.

Schools and Learning
The Terrebonne Parish School District runs the public schools in the area. Children in Bourg can attend Bourg Elementary School for younger grades. Older students go to South Terrebonne High School.
The Terrebonne Parish Library System used to have a library branch in Bourg. However, it closed permanently because of damage from Hurricane Ida. Plans are being made to build a new library nearby.

Bourg is a good starting point to reach the Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area (WMA). A WMA is a special place where wildlife is protected. People can visit for activities like hunting or fishing. You can get to this area by taking LA 24 and then LA 55 or LA 665 from Bourg.
