Bowling Green is a small community in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which is an area the government defines for gathering population information.

As of the 2020 census, about 1,018 people live in Bowling Green.

Where is Bowling Green?

Bowling Green is located in western Maryland. It sits along U.S. Route 220, also called McMullen Highway. You can find it just southwest of the city of Cumberland. The area includes a place that used to be a separate community called Roberts.

To the south of Bowling Green is another CDP called Potomac Park. The Potomac River flows along its eastern side. To the west, you'll see Haystack Mountain.

A Look at the Past

For many years, Bowling Green was mostly made up of farms. Over time, families like the Buchanans, Roberts, and Longs divided the farmland into smaller pieces for building homes.

Close to the Potomac River, you can still see CSX Transportation railroad tracks. Long ago, there was a train station in the Roberts area, but it's not used anymore.

What's in Bowling Green Today?

In the northern part of Bowling Green, near Cumberland, you'll find the Upper Potomac Industrial Park. This area is home to different businesses and industries.
