Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Earl of Bessborough (1679 – 4 July 1758) was an important British politician. He was also a peer, which means he held a special noble title.
Brabazon was the son of William Ponsonby, 1st Viscount Duncannon. He was very active in politics from 1705 to 1757. He worked in both Great Britain and Ireland. He was a representative for Newtownards and County Kildare in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a member of parliament.
In 1724, he inherited his father's title, becoming the Viscount Duncannon. Later, in 1739, he was given the new title of Earl of Bessborough. He is buried in Fiddown, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
Ponsonby married Sarah Margetson. Her family owned a large estate called Bishopscourt, County Kildare. His family lived there for many years.
