Brackenville is located where Brackenville Road and Old Wilmington Road meet. You can find it just east of another community called Hockessin.
A Glimpse into Brackenville's Past
How Brackenville Began
The story of Brackenville goes back to the early 1800s. In 1809, a man named William Brackend bought some land. This land was right along a main road that connected the cities of Wilmington and Lancaster.
The "Peace and Plenty" Hotel
A few years later, in 1818, a new road opened. It was called the Wilmington Turnpike, also known as Lancaster Pike. This new road made travel much easier. William Brackend saw an opportunity and opened a hotel. He named his hotel the "Peace and Plenty."
The "Peace and Plenty" hotel was a landmark in the area. It was located on the northwest corner of Old Lancaster Pike and Brackenville Road. Sadly, the old hotel building was taken down before 1937. Even though the building is gone, its history is still a part of Brackenville's story.
