About Brahim Lahlafi
Brahim Lahlafi was born in Fes, Morocco, on April 15, 1968. He became a very good long-distance runner. He ran for his home country, Morocco, for most of his career. For a short time, he also became a French citizen in 2002. However, he started representing Morocco again in 2007.
His Biggest Achievements
Brahim Lahlafi's greatest moment was winning a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He earned this medal in the 5,000 metres race. This was his first medal at a major international sports event.
He had come close to winning medals before. At the 1995 World Cross Country Championships, he finished fifth. He also placed fifth in the 5,000 metres at the 1995 World Championships. In 1999, he was fourth in the same event at the World Championships.
He did win a bronze medal at the 1998 African Championships. This was for the 3,000 metres race.
Belgrade Race Through History
In 1996, Brahim Lahlafi won the very first Belgrade Race Through History competition. This was a 6-kilometre race. He beat another famous runner, Paul Tergat, to win the race. Brahim Lahlafi still holds the record for the fastest time on that course.
