How BrainRush Worked: The Game Format
In BrainRush, contestants answered fun trivia questions. But there was a twist! They answered these questions while riding thrilling roller coasters. The entire show took place at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California.
Round 1: Quick Quiz on the Boomerang
The first round took place on the Boomerang roller coaster. The host, Lamorne Morris, sat on the ride with the contestants. Each contestant was asked a series of questions during the ride.
The Boomerang ride lasted about one minute and 45 seconds. Every correct answer was worth $25. The two contestants who earned the most money moved on to the next round. If there was a tie, a special tie-breaker question was asked. The contestant whose guess was closest to the correct answer without going over won the tie.
Round 2: Silver Bullet Challenges
The two remaining players moved to the Silver Bullet roller coaster. Here, they each chose one of two hidden games. The player with less money from Round 1 chose first.
Each part of these games was worth $50. Both games offered the same total amount of money, usually $300. The money earned in this round was added to their Round 1 winnings. The person with the most money at the end of Round 2 won the game. If there was another tie, a numerical question was asked, similar to Round 1.
Games You Could Play in Round 2
- Street Wise: The host told the player five letters during the ride. After the ride, the player had to remember those five letters. Each letter recalled correctly was worth $50. Then, they had to unscramble the letters into a slang word based on a clue. If they did it in 30 seconds, they won another $50!
- Regurgitator: As the coaster went up the lift hill, the player heard a short story. During the ride, they were asked six questions about the story. Each correct answer was worth $50.
- Represent: During the ride, the host said three random words. Also, three random pictures were shown around the park. After the ride, the player could list any of the words or describe the pictures for $50 each.
- Hurling Hangman: The player looked for three letters while on the ride. They earned $50 for each letter they remembered. Then, they used these letters to complete three words within 10 seconds. Each correctly completed word was worth an extra $50.
Round 3: Motor Mouth on the Xcelerator
The final round took place on the super-fast Xcelerator roller coaster. The contestant chose one of four categories for their questions. Before the ride, they could eat a food item for a $100 bonus! They had to eat the whole thing to get the money.
Here were the categories:
- Zap-Pow - All about superheroes and comic books.
- Penalty Box - Questions about sports.
- Watch-Out - Focused on television and movies.
- Know It All - General knowledge questions about anything!
During the 24-second ride, the contestant was asked one question with many possible answers. The first correct answer was worth $50. Each additional correct answer was worth $50 more than the last one. For example, if they gave 5 correct answers, they won $750!
After the ride, the contestant faced a big decision. They could keep all their winnings, or they could risk half of it on one final question. If they answered correctly, their total winnings doubled! If they answered incorrectly, they lost half their money. No matter what, the $100 food bonus was not doubled or halved.
