Lamorne Morris (born August 14, 1983) is an American actor and comedian. He is famous for playing Winston Bishop in the popular TV comedy New Girl from 2011 to 2018. He also starred as the cartoonist Keef Knight in the comedy series Woke.

More recently, Morris played State Trooper Witt Farr in the fifth season of the crime show Fargo. His performance was so good that he won a Primetime Emmy Award. You might also know him from movies like Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), Game Night (2018), and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).

Early Life and Education

Morris grew up on the South Side of Chicago. When he was a teenager, he moved to a suburb called Glen Ellyn and went to Glenbard South High School. His mother worked for the United States Postal Service.

Before he knew he wanted to be an actor, Morris was a class clown and often got sent to detention. He later studied theater at the College of DuPage and graduated in 2003. He even won a special acting scholarship named after the comedian Chris Farley.

Morris also trained at The Second City, a famous comedy school in Chicago. To earn money while studying, he worked at a diner called Ed Debevic's. At this restaurant, the servers are known for pretending to be rude to customers for fun.

Acting Career

First Steps in Television

Before becoming a famous actor, Morris appeared in many TV commercials. He was in ads for companies like Taco Bell, State Farm Insurance, Sears, and Ford.

He also worked as a TV host. He hosted shows on the BET network and a game show called BrainRush on Cartoon Network.

Breakthrough with 'New Girl'

Morris's big break came in 2011 when he was cast as Winston Bishop in the TV show New Girl. The show is about a group of friends who live together in an apartment. Morris joined the cast in the second episode and stayed for the entire series. He even helped write one episode and directed another one in the final season.

Starring in 'Woke' and 'Fargo'

From 2020 to 2022, Morris starred in the comedy series Woke. He played Keef Knight, a cartoonist whose life changes after an unexpected event. The show was based on the life and comics of the real-life cartoonist Keith Knight.

In 2023, he took on a more serious role in the crime drama Fargo. He played a North Dakota State Trooper named Witt Farr. His acting in the show earned him a Primetime Emmy Award, a major honor for television actors.

Movie Roles and Other Projects

Besides his TV work, Morris has appeared in several popular movies. He played roles in the comedies Game Night (2018) and Yesterday (2019). He was also in the adventure movie Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).

In 2022, he started a podcast called Welcome to Our Show with his New Girl co-stars Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone. On the podcast, they rewatch episodes of New Girl and share behind-the-scenes stories.

Most recently, Morris was cast as the classic comic book character Robbie Robertson in the TV show Spider-Noir, which is part of the Spider-Man universe.

Personal Life

Morris has said that comedian Garrett Morris (who is not related to him) was a big inspiration for his career. In 2024, Lamorne even got to play Garrett Morris in the movie Saturday Night.

He is a big sports fan and loves baseball, basketball, and bowling. He cheers for the Chicago White Sox baseball team and the professional bowler Pete Weber.
