Lamorne Morris (born August 14, 1983) is an American actor and comedian. He is well-known for playing Winston Bishop in the TV show New Girl (2011–2018). He also starred as cartoonist Keef Knight in the comedy series Woke (2020–2022). More recently, he played Trooper Whitley "Witt" Farr in the fifth season of Fargo, for which he won a big award called a Primetime Emmy Award. Lamorne Morris has also appeared in movies like Game Night (2018) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).

Early life and education

Lamorne Morris grew up in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. When he was a teenager, he moved to Glen Ellyn. He went to Glenbard South High School. His mom worked for the United States Postal Service. Lamorne also has a brother named Devon. Before he started acting, he was known as a class clown and often got sent to detention!

Lamorne Morris studied theater at the College of DuPage. He graduated in 2003 and even received a special acting scholarship named after comedian Chris Farley. He also trained at the Second City Training Center, which is famous for comedy. While studying, he worked as a server at a fun diner called Ed Debevic's.

Career highlights

Lamorne Morris has appeared in many TV commercials for popular brands like State Farm Insurance, Taco Bell, and McDonald's. In 2019, he became the spokesperson for the Bank of Montreal.

He started his TV career as a host for BET, where he hosted shows like HotWyred and BET Now. He also hosted the game show BrainRush on Cartoon Network.

New Girl and other TV roles

Lamorne Morris became very famous for his role as Winston Bishop in the comedy series New Girl. The show aired on Fox from 2011 to 2018. Interestingly, he wasn't in the very first episode. Another actor, Damon Wayans Jr., was originally cast, but he had to leave because of another show. So, Lamorne joined the cast in the second episode. He even helped write an episode called "Par 5" and directed an episode in the final season.

In 2018, it was announced that Morris would star in a comedy show called Woke. This show was based on a comic strip by Keith Knight. Woke ran for two seasons on Hulu in 2020 and 2022.

In 2022, Lamorne Morris was cast in the fifth season of the TV series Fargo. He played Trooper Whitley "Witt" Farr. His performance was highly praised, and he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for this role.

Recently, in July 2024, it was announced that Lamorne Morris will play Robbie Robertson in a new TV show called Spider-Noir on Amazon Prime Video.

Lamorne Morris is a big fan of baseball, basketball, and bowling. He supports the Chicago White Sox baseball team. He has even said that every room in his house has something related to basketball!

He played comedian Garrett Morris in the 2024 film Saturday Night. Even though they share the same last name, they are not related. Garrett Morris has been a big inspiration for Lamorne's career.
