Branson City, also known as Branson, is a ghost town in San Diego County, California. A ghost town is a place that used to be a town but is now mostly empty. It sits high up at 3996 feet above sea level. You can find it on State Highway 78, near Pine Hills Road. It's about one mile west of the town of Julian.
The Story of Branson City
Branson City was started in August 1870. A lawyer named Lewis C. Branson founded it. The town was located west of Julian, right by Coleman Creek. This area was part of the Julian Mining District, where people were looking for gold.
At its busiest, Branson City had a store where people could buy supplies. There was also a saloon and a dance-hall for entertainment. The town even had its own post office for a short time. It opened on August 19, 1870, but closed just a few months later, on October 13, 1870.
Branson City didn't last long. The nearby town of Julian was closer to where the valuable gold was being found in the hills. Julian also offered more protection from the weather. Because of these reasons, Julian grew, and Branson City slowly disappeared.
