The Bras Saint-Victor is a river in Quebec, Canada. Its name means "Saint-Victor arm" in English. It's a "tributary," which means it's a smaller river that flows into a larger one. The Bras Saint-Victor flows into the Chaudière River. The Chaudière River then flows north to join the mighty St. Lawrence River.
This river is located in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec. It passes through several towns. These include La Guadeloupe, Saint-Éphrem-de-Beauce, Saint-Victor, Saint-Jules, and Beauceville.
Where Does the River Start and End?
The Bras Saint-Victor begins high up in forested streams. Its source is near the town of La Guadeloupe. At this point, the river is about 405 meters (1,329 feet) above sea level.
The river then flows for about 40.3 kilometers (25 miles). It ends its journey by joining the Chaudière River in Beauceville. Here, the elevation is much lower, around 140 meters (459 feet).
What's in a Name?
The name "Bras Saint-Victor" was officially recognized a long time ago. It was made official on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This group is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
Other Streams Joining the River
Many smaller streams flow into the Bras Saint-Victor. These are also called tributaries. On the left side (as you go upstream), you'll find streams like Ruisseau Cliche and Ruisseau des Castors. There are also larger ones like Rivière du Cinq and Rivière Prévost-Gilbert.
On the right side, some streams that join are Ruisseau Félix and Ruisseau de la Pointe. All these streams help feed the Bras Saint-Victor as it makes its way to the Chaudière River.
