A Look at the Bredeick–Lang House
The Bredeick–Lang House is made of brick. It also has cool iron details. It looks almost exactly like it did when it was first built. This means it has kept its old-fashioned charm.
Not many buildings from Delphos's early days are still standing. This makes the Bredeick–Lang House one of the oldest buildings in the city. It's also considered one of the most elegant.
The Bredeick Family's History
The Bredeick family was very important in starting Delphos. Brothers Ferdinand and John Otto Bredeick helped plan the town. They laid out the community in 1845. This was along the Miami and Erie Canal.
They even named the two sides of the town "West Bredeick" and "East Bredeick." This shows how much they contributed to the city's beginnings.
Why is This House Important?
In 1982, the Bredeick–Lang House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. It was added because its historic architecture is so well preserved.
Other Historic Buildings in Delphos
There are two other buildings in Delphos on the National Register. Both of these are on the Allen County side of the city.
These other buildings have different styles. St. John's Catholic Church is a Romanesque Revival building. The Marks-Family House is a Queen Anne style building. This shows the different types of architecture in Delphos.
