Brent Sancho, born on March 13, 1977, is a former professional football player from Trinidad and Tobago. He played as a defender. After his football career, he became a politician. In February 2015, he was appointed the Minister of Sports for his home country.

Brent Sancho's Football Journey
Brent Sancho started his football journey in college and then played for various clubs around the world. He was known for his strong defense on the field.
College Football Years
Brent Sancho was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He spent his college years playing football for St. John's University in New York City. In 1996, he helped his college team win their only National Championship.
Playing in Europe and the USA
After college, Sancho played for several teams. In 1999, he played in Finland for MYPA and Tervarit. He then moved to Scotland, joining Dundee for the 2003–04 season. After a successful time in the Scottish Premier League, he moved to England to play for Gillingham.
In December 2007, Sancho joined Millwall for a short time. Later, in March 2008, he signed with Ross County in Scotland. He also had a trial with Wrexham in July 2008.
Sancho returned to the USA in August 2008, playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks. In February 2009, he signed a two-year contract with the Rochester Rhinos.
Representing Trinidad and Tobago
Brent Sancho was an important player for the Trinidad and Tobago national football team. He played in a major international tournament, which was a big moment for his country.
Playing in the FIFA World Cup
Sancho played in all three matches for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This made him the first player from Gillingham to play in a World Cup. In the third match against Paraguay, he accidentally scored an own goal. This match led to Trinidad and Tobago being eliminated from the tournament.
Retirement from International Play
On October 9, 2006, Sancho announced he was retiring from playing for his country. This decision came after a disagreement between the World Cup players and the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation. The players felt they were not given the bonuses they were promised for playing in the World Cup. The issue went to court, and the court sided with the players. Even though some players returned to the national team later, Sancho did not play for Trinidad and Tobago after the 2006 World Cup.
Life After Football
After his professional football career, Brent Sancho continued to be involved in sports and even entered politics.
Coaching and Team Ownership
In 2010, Sancho became the owner and coach of the North East Stars football club in Trinidad and Tobago. Later, he started his own team called Central FC.
Becoming a Sports Minister
In 2015, Brent Sancho was appointed as the Minister of Sport in Trinidad and Tobago. This meant he was in charge of sports for his entire country.
Working with National Teams
As of 2021, Sancho was working as an assistant manager for the Anguilla national team.
Awards and Recognition
For his participation in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Brent Sancho received a special award from his country.
Chaconia Medal
As a member of the Trinidad and Tobago team that played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Sancho was awarded the Chaconia Medal (Gold Class). This is the second highest award given by the state of Trinidad and Tobago.
