Anguilla's World Cup Journey
First Steps in Qualifiers (2002)
Anguilla first joined the World Cup qualifiers for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. They played against the Bahamas. Anguilla lost the first game 3–1 at home. In the second game, they lost 2–1, meaning they were out of the competition with a total score of 5–2.
Challenges in Later Qualifiers (2006-2022)
For the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Anguilla played the Dominican Republic. The first game was a 0–0 draw. However, Anguilla had to play their "home" game in the Dominican Republic too. They lost that game 6–0, and were eliminated.
In the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Anguilla faced El Salvador. They lost the first game 12–0. Their "home" game was played in the United States, where they lost 4–0. The total score was 16–0, and Anguilla was out.
For the 2014 FIFA World Cup, they again played the Dominican Republic. They lost both games, 2–0 and 4–0, making the total score 6–0.
In the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Anguilla played Nicaragua. They lost 5–0 in the first game and 3–0 in the second, losing 8–0 overall.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers saw Anguilla in a group with Dominica, Barbados, Dominican Republic, and Panama. They lost all four matches. The scores were 6–0 against Dominican Republic, 1–0 against Barbados, 3–0 against Dominica, and a big 13–0 loss against Panama. They finished with no points and no goals scored.
Making History in 2026 Qualifiers
For the first time ever, Anguilla moved past the first round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification! They beat the Turks and Caicos Islands after a 1–1 tie, winning on penalties. This was a huge step for the team.
In the second round, they are in Group F. They will play against Suriname, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
World Cup Qualification Summary
Anguilla has played 20 World Cup qualifying matches. They have not won any, but they have had 3 draws and 17 losses. They have scored only 3 goals and conceded 86 goals.
