Team History
The Turks and Caicos Islands formed their football association in 1996. They joined FIFA, the world's football governing body, in 1998. Their first official FIFA competition was the 2002 World Cup qualification. In March 2000, they played against St. Kitts and Nevis. They were knocked out in the first round.
In 2004, the team lost to Haiti in the 2006 World Cup qualifying competition.
A big step for the team was in 2007. The football federation built their first stadium, the Turks and Caicos National Stadium. This was done with help from FIFA. The stadium helps them grow football in the islands.
On February 6, 2008, the team made history! They won their first World Cup qualification game. They beat Saint Lucia 2–1 at home. However, they lost the second game away. This meant they were eliminated with a total score of 2–3.
The team waited a long time for another official win. It finally happened on June 3, 2014. They defeated the British Virgin Islands. This win was during the 2014 Caribbean Cup qualification. Because of this victory, their FIFA ranking jumped from 207th to 181st!
