Team History
The Saint Lucia team first tried to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 1992. They played in the qualifying rounds for the 1994 World Cup. However, they were knocked out by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the first round.
In the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Saint Lucia played against Aruba. They lost the first game 4–2. But in the second game, they won 4–2, which meant the score was tied overall. The game went to extra time and then to penalty kicks. Saint Lucia won the penalty shootout 5–4 and moved on to the next round. In the next stage, they were in a group with Canada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Puerto Rico. Saint Lucia finished last in their group with only one draw and five losses, so they did not qualify further.
In 2014, the team won the Windward Islands Tournament. They beat Dominica 2–0, Grenada 1–0, and tied with Saint Vincent & The Grenadines.
The Saint Lucia Football Association also worked with Carlisle United, a football club in England. This partnership allowed four Saint Lucian players to try out for Carlisle United each year. In return, Carlisle United got the first chance to sign these players professionally.
Saint Lucia decided not to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They withdrew before their first match.
