Brian C. Smith (born January 8, 1989) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Brian played for the Cleveland Browns and was also part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills.
Brian Smith's Early Life
Brian C. Smith was born on January 8, 1989. His hometown is Overland Park, Kansas. He started playing football in high school. He went to St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
During his junior year, Brian made 100 tackles. He also had one interception and caused three fumbles. In his senior year, he made 126 tackles and nine sacks. He was recognized as one of the best players in the Kansas City area. Experts rated him as a top linebacker in the nation.
College Football Career
Brian Smith played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was a student at the University of Notre Dame from 2007 to 2010.
In his first year (2007), he played in 11 games. He made 11 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles. He even scored a touchdown by returning an intercepted ball 25 yards.
In 2008, he played in 11 games and started nine of them. He had 33 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles. He also scored another touchdown by returning a recovered fumble 35 yards.
Brian started all 12 games in 2009. He recorded 37 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles. He also caught two interceptions. In his final year (2010), he had 22 solo tackles and 28 assisted tackles. He studied anthropology while at Notre Dame.
Professional Football Career
Brian Smith began his professional career in 2011. He signed with the Cleveland Browns on July 30, 2011. He played in two games for the Browns that year.
In 2012, Brian signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Later that year, he joined the practice squad for the Buffalo Bills. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. They can be called up to play if needed.
Brian signed a new contract with the Bills at the end of 2012. He stayed with the team until August 2013.
