Briana Nichole Williams, born on March 21, 2002, is a talented athlete from Jamaica and the United States. She is known for her speed in sprint races, especially the 100 metres and 200 metres.

Briana made history at just 16 years old. She became the youngest athlete to win both the women's 100 metres and 200 metres races at the World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

She also set a world record for 15-year-old girls in the 100 metres, finishing in 11.13 seconds in March 2018. Briana has held Jamaican records for athletes under 18 and under 20 in both the 100 metres and 200 metres. Her fastest times are 22.50 seconds for the 200 metres and 10.97 seconds for the 100 metres.

Briana's Athletics Journey

Starting Strong in 2018

Briana's amazing journey in athletics began with a bang in 2018. On March 17, she broke a world record for 15-year-old girls. She ran the 100 metres in just 11.13 seconds at an event in Jacksonville, Florida. This was faster than the old record set almost 27 years earlier.

Just two weeks later, Briana won three gold medals at the 2018 CARIFTA Games. She competed in the under-17 group and won the 100 metres, 200 metres, and the 4 × 100 metres relay. She even set new records for the championship in the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay.

In July of that year, she achieved another big milestone. Briana became the youngest athlete ever to win both the 100 metres and 200 metres at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

Continuing Success in 2019

Briana kept up her winning streak in 2019. At the 2019 CARIFTA Games in April, she once again won three gold medals. This time, she competed in the under-20 category, winning the 100 metres, 200 metres, and the 4 × 100 metres relay.

She continued to improve her personal best times. On June 1, she set a new Jamaican record for under-18 and under-20 athletes in the 100 metres. She ran it in 11.10 seconds. A week later, she improved this record even further to 11.02 seconds.

At the Jamaican Championships in June 2019, Briana ran the 100 metres final in 10.94 seconds. This time would have been a new world best for under-18 athletes and a new Jamaican under-20 record. However, her results from this competition were later removed from the official records due to a rule violation.

Olympic Gold in 2021

In 2021, Briana continued to break her own records. On May 30, she set a new official Jamaican under-20 record in the 100 metres, finishing in 11.01 seconds. The very next day, she ran even faster, clocking 10.98 seconds. This set another Jamaican under-20 record.

Even though she placed fourth at the Jamaican National Championships in the 100 metres, she still got to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She was part of the Jamaican 4 × 100 metres relay team. This team won the gold medal, a huge achievement for Briana and her country!

Awards and Special Recognition

Briana has received many awards for her amazing talent. She won the Austin Sealy Award at the 2018 and 2019 CARIFTA Games. This award is given to the most outstanding athlete at the competition. She was the first Jamaican athlete since Usain Bolt to win this award two years in a row.

In 2018, she was also nominated for two big international awards: the IAAF Female Rising Star and the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year awards. These nominations showed that the world recognized her as a rising star in athletics.
