Briana Nichole Williams (born March 21, 2002) is a super-fast runner, also known as a sprinter. She was born in America but competes for Jamaica in races like the 100 metres and 200 metres. When she was just 16 years old, she made history! She became the youngest athlete ever to win both the women's 100 metres and 200 metres at the World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Briana holds some amazing records. She set a world record for 15-year-old girls in the 100 metres, running it in just 11.13 seconds in March 2018. She also holds Jamaican records for young athletes (under-18 and under-20) in the 200 metres. She used to hold the Jamaican records for young athletes in the 100 metres too, with her best times being 22.50 seconds (200m) and 10.97 seconds (100m).

Briana Williams' Athletics Journey
2018: A Record-Breaking Year
Briana started 2018 with a bang! On March 17, at a competition in Jacksonville, Florida, she broke the world record for 15-year-old girls in the 100 metres. Her time was 11.13 seconds, which was faster than the old record set almost 27 years before!
Just two weeks later, she won three gold medals at the 2018 CARIFTA Games. She won the 100 metres, 200 metres, and the 4 × 100 metres relay in the under-17 group. She even set new championship records in the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay.
In July, she became the youngest person ever to win both the 100 metres and 200 metres races at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. This was a huge achievement for her!
2019: More Gold and New Records
In April 2019, Briana went to the 2019 CARIFTA Games again. This time, she competed in the under-20 group and still won three gold medals! She won the 100 metres, 200 metres, and the 4 × 100 metres relay.
On June 1, she set a new Jamaican record for under-18 and under-20 girls in the 100 metres. She ran 11.10 seconds. A week later, another runner briefly took the record, but Briana quickly got it back, improving her time to 11.02 seconds!
Later in June 2019, Briana ran an amazing 10.94 seconds in the 100 metres final at the Jamaican Championships. This would have been a new world best for under-18 athletes and improved her Jamaican under-20 record. However, her results from that competition were later removed from the official records. She was found not to be at fault for the issue and was still allowed to compete.
2021: Olympic Gold!
Briana continued to improve her Jamaican under-20 record in the 100 metres in May 2021. She ran 11.01 seconds in one race and then an even faster 10.98 seconds in another!
In June 2021, she placed fourth in the 100 metres at the Jamaican National Championships. This meant she didn't qualify for the 100 metres race at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. But she still got to go to the Olympics! She was part of the Jamaican 4 × 100 metres relay team. Together, they won the gold medal! This was a huge moment for Briana and her team.
Awards and Recognition
Briana has won several special awards for her amazing running.
- She received the Austin Sealy award at the CARIFTA Games in both 2018 and 2019. This award is given to the best athlete at the games. She was the first Jamaican athlete since Usain Bolt (a very famous sprinter!) to win this award two years in a row.
- In 2018, she was nominated for two big international awards: the IAAF Female Rising Star and the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year. These awards recognize young athletes who are making a big impact.
