Brickelliastrum is a special group of flowering plants. These plants are found in North America. They belong to the sunflower family. This family is also known as the daisy family.
Scientists have studied Brickelliastrum plants carefully. They once thought these plants were part of other groups, like Brickellia or Steviopsis. However, new research shows they are unique. Things like their chromosome number and genetic information prove this.
Even though they might look a bit like Brickellia plants, Brickelliastrum plants have clear differences. Their fruits, called cypselae, have only 5 to 7 ribs. Other similar plants have 10 ribs. Also, their flower petals, called corollas, are shaped like funnels. Their style (a part of the flower) is also different. It has a smooth base that is not enlarged.
